Academic GradesMiddle school report cards and progress reports are issued every 5 weeks at Harry Bridges Span School as follows:
On 5 and 15-week progress reports, students may be given a slash "/" which simply means that they are passing with a grade of "C" or better. Some classes, such as Advisory, are given a "N" or no grade, but are still given work habits and cooperation grades.
In my class, I use Quick Grading (see explanation at right) for classwork and homework. Quizzes, tests and projects receive a percentage score. Some projects are graded using a rubric and the scoring will be explained for that individual project. Grades are cumulative through the end of the semester and work may be made up through the end of the semester. Make-Up Work or Re-DosStudents are able to re-do or make up EVERY ASSIGNMENT I give except Periodic Assessments and assignments for which they've received a zero due to cheating.
Late work will be penalized by 5 points per school day. All missing work will be given a zero. Re-done assignments will be penalized by 5 points total and the higher score (minus 5 points) will be given. An assignment can be done over as many times as a student wishes (within reason). Make-up or redone assignments need to be done on student time, not class time. Students are responsible for scheduling a day/time with Ms. Landry to re-take tests or get any missing assignments. |
Ms. Landry's Quick ScoresOn classwork and homework assignments, I correct with a marker and issue a plus +, check plus √+, check √, check minus √-, minus -, or zero 0.
+ = 95 (A) completed work, excellent quality √+ = 85 (B) completed work, above average √ = 75 (C) completed work, average √- = 65 (D) mostly complete, below-average work - = 55 (F) incomplete, illegible, and/or far below average 0 (F) did not do, did not turn in, and/or cheating Most of the time, students also receive a "stamp" when work is completed on-time. This stamp is worth 5 points. Late work is reduced by 5 points per school day. E S and U GradesStudents will also receive a COOPERATION and WORK HABITS grade every 5 weeks. See description and rubric below.
Work HabitsWork habits include attendance, consistent effort and responsibility for work. Students with excellent work habits come to school on time every day and ready to learn. Being ready to learn means coming with appropriate materials and completed homework and getting right to work at the beginning of class. Students with excellent work habits complete all assignments on time and to the best of their ability, making sure to check for missed work when absent.
Cooperation (behavior)Cooperation (behavior) grades include attitude, collaboration, and overall behavior. Students are expected to be positive, willing to try, respectful of the teacher and classmates, and polite. They are expected to be able to work both individually and in groups. Finally, they are expected to follow directions and classroom rules with few reminders. I have a rubric posted in the classroom so students can see exactly what behaviors are expected to earn an E (excellent), S (satisfactory), or U (unsatisfactory) on their report card.
