Positive Behavioral SupportThis class uses a positive behavioral support system to help all students be successful. Students are given praise for following school rules and showing excellent work habits and cooperation. Expectations are clearly posted and reinforced. Campus-wide rules for conduct are posted but I also encourage students to follow personal standards for life. These aren’t just a list of classroom do’s and don’ts, but standards to live by. They include show respect, solve problems and make good decisions. We discuss each of these as a group and look for examples in class. Showing respect means not talking when others are talking, being nice to others, raising your hand to ask questions and following rules. Students are encouraged to solve problems by asking peers or the teacher for help if needed. We talk about good decisions for the different activities we do. For example a good decision during a test is not to talk or look at others’ papers. I try to “catch kids being good” and they earn verbal praise, recognition, and sometimes classroom play money to purchase treats.
